Life after graduation

Good evening!

I had a look on the 'Life after graduation' brochure. It seemed really helpful to me.First of all, there is a great list of resources available to help to find the job after graduation. I knew about Careers services and prospects.ac.uk, but didn't hear anything about careersadvice.dircet.gov.uk. I have accessed it and found so much information, advices and guidelines! I'm just wondering why I didn't come across earlier with this resource! Also there I found really handy to have a list of job vacancy websites. I will keep this brochure, because soon I will apply for graduate scheme or a job, so that will help me.However, I didn't find much information about graduate schemes specifically. For example, Times Top 100 Graduate employers wasn't mentioned, but I find it really good resource. But there is a website about regional graduate jobs - for Yorkshire as well.

Another option which broadened my views was Self-employment. I never thought about it seriously, but now I'm considering this possibility as well. But still, I think it's too risky to set up a business straight after graduation. I think it's better to have a job and experience first, as well as gain of financial independence.

I always liked careers in public sector, as I consider them really useful. I'd feel proud if I helped the community. But I'm not sure if I'm eligible to work in Police or Armed Forces in UK... but I think I'm this type of person who would be really good in army or navy, or air forces.

Work experience and internships (and volunteering). This is a tricky one. As I'm not financially independent, the preferable option for me is paid job. So I don't consider these kind of options. I have some work experience as well, so I think I've made the first step to get a proper job. Or I don't just understand what work experience and internship is about.

Further studies is something I would like to do and there is a information about how to get the loan and how to choose the area what to study. I will research it and evaluate. Maybe I'll do PhD or MSc.

In conclusion, the brochure is packed with useful information for final year students. I'd like to mention, that I've seen this brochure in Career Development Services, but apart from I didn't see it anywhere on Campus. If we make it more available to students that would be more beneficial for them. I know a guy who has graduated with 2:1 last May from Bradford Uni and still can't find a job. I'm wondering if he has seen this booklet. Another thing is to decide what do you want. You can't get something, if you don't know what it is.
